Cardano Joins Solana, XRP in AI Payments Race as ADA Surges 8%

Cardano (CRYPTO: ADA) surges 8% over the past 24 hours, joining the official x402 software kit that gives AI agents a direct rail to pay for services in ADA. What x402 Actually Does CoinDesk reported Tuesday that x402 turns the web’s largely unused “402 Payment Required” response into a built-in checkout for internet requests. A service sends its price and payment instructions, an AI agent signs the payment, and the transaction unlocks the requested data or computing power automatically. That means an agent building a report could buy a single dataset the moment it needs one, without a person opening an account or paying for a monthly subscription. Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) created x402 in 2025 before handing it to a Linux Foundation-backed organization whose members include Visa (NYSE:V), Mastercard (NYSE:MA), Stripe, Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google, and Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services. Meanwhile, Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) and the XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) Ledger already support the standard, alongside several Ethereum-compatible networks. How Cardano’s Integration Works Cardano Foundation engineers built the client and server software needed to request and verify payments after the specification got accepted in June. His reasoning: crypto solves payments, alignment, and data provenance problems that centralized AI systems cannot handle on their own.
