Grand Central Receives Regulatory Approval for Alstom-Retrofitted ETCS Fleet

Grand Central has received regulatory approval for the retrofit of its Class 180 fleet with the European Train Control System (ETCS), completed by Alstom. This 10-vehicle fleet will undergo 50,000 miles of fault-free running starting in December after software updates. The implementation of digital in-cab signaling is expected to commence on the East Coast Main Line between Welwyn and Hitchin by spring 2027.
