Vitalik Buterin Welcomes Prediction Market Contender to Ethereum Base Chain, Says It Does 'Interesting and Meaningful' Things Ethically

Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin endorsed Trueo as a strong prediction market contender on Monday, calling it ethical and free of "corposlop." Bitarin Welcomes Trueo on Layer 1 In an X post, Buterin said he was “glad to see” Trueo migrating from Base—where it initially launched in March 2025—to the Ethereum L1 chain. He highlighted Trueo’s commitment to “decentralization,” positioning it as an alternative to corporate-influenced platforms in the growing prediction market sector. Buterin previously defined “corposlop” as prioritizing profits over consumers’ well-being. Butering added that the platform was trying to do “interesting and meaningful things” with its economic primitive. Trueo aims to deliver a more “impartial and credible” resolution than what market leaders such as Polymarket and Kalshi offer. “Due process in dispute resolution is severely lacking despite the growth of prediction markets over the past five years,” Trueo said. Some outcomes have been the subject of disagreement. Kalshi was sued earlier this year for refusing to pay millions of dollars to bettors who predicted Iran’s supreme leader would leave office before a March deadline. Trueo also issues the True Yield Dollar (TYD) stablecoin, which rewards users for holding or maintaining positions in prediction markets. Buterin Backs Prediction Markets Buterin was among the notable backers of Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket’s $70 million funding round in 2024. Broadly, he supports prediction markets, arguing that wrong bets could lead to financial losses, which, over time, make the system more "truth-seeking" and better at reflecting "genuine" probabilities. On the flip side, he said these platforms could theoretically give people a reason to cause harm because they’d be able to profit from bad outcomes. Kalshi and Polymarket together account for nearly 94% of the monthly notional volume on prediction market platforms, according to Dune Analytics.
