Microsoft Researchers Develop AI Tool for Sequential Medical Diagnosis

Microsoft researchers, in collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, have developed an AI tool that enhances sequential medical diagnosis by mimicking the clinical reasoning of physicians. A study published in Science indicates that this model, which uses an 'orchestrator' for patient questioning and diagnostic testing, outperforms general physicians in complex cases and is more cost-effective. Future evaluations will focus on the tool's effectiveness in emergency department triage.
