EMA Committee Endorses Novo Nordisk's Hemophilia A Therapy

Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) stock is trading higher on Thursday after the Danish drug maker achieved major advances across its therapeutic pipeline after securing a key European regulatory recommendation for its hemophilia A treatment and launching a major cardiometabolic research partnership. European Recommendation For Hemophilia Treatment On Thursday, the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use recommended marketing authorization for FREHEMGO (denecimig). The next-generation factor VIIIa mimetic bispecific antibody operates as a routine prophylactic therapy to prevent or reduce bleeding episodes in adult and pediatric patients with hemophilia A, with or without inhibitors. During the pivotal FRONTIER 2 study, denecimig significantly cut annualized bleeding rates compared with prior clotting factor prophylaxis and on-demand care. FRONTIER 3 confirmed similar efficacy in children under 12 years old. Across the entire program, denecimig demonstrated mean annualized bleeding rates below one, while a substantial proportion of patients achieved zero treated bleeds. Clinical Results And U.S. Regulatory Status Phase 3b data from FRONTIER 5, published in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, showed patients safely switched from emicizumab to denecimig without requiring a loading dose or washout period. The therapy restored thrombin generation to normal ranges without inducing excessive clotting, while participants expressed a preference for denecimig’s pen injector system. Novo submitted a Biologics License Application for denecimig to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in September 2025. Cardiometabolic Research Deal With Orbis Medicines Additionally, Novo established a strategic licensing agreement with Eli Lilly & Co. (NYSE:LLY)-backed Orbis Medicines to design oral macrocycle drugs for cardiometabolic conditions. Orbis may receive up to $1.4 billion in upfront fees, milestone payments, and tiered royalties. Novo will also make a direct investment in Orbis, leveraging its generative AI nGen platform to advance orally available therapeutics.
