Novartis Discontinues Development of Pelacarsen for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

Novartis will discontinue development of pelacarsen for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease after the therapy failed to meet the primary endpoints in the Phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON trial. The company will continue studying pelacarsen for calcific aortic valve stenosis; the drug was originally discovered by Ionis Pharmaceuticals.
