Sono-Tek Lands Largest Order in Company History

Sono-Tek Corp. (NASDAQ:SOTK) stock jumped more than 20% Wednesday after the micro-cap company announced a record $7.19 million in orders from an existing clean energy customer.The orders cover 10 production-scale coating systems that will ship to three geographic locations. Together, they represent the largest aggregate customer order in Sono-Tek’s history.Clean Energy Customer Expands DeploymentSono-Tek said the customer already uses its ultrasonic coating systems in an advanced solar manufacturing process.The latest orders expand that deployment and move Sono-Tek’s technology further into high-volume manufacturing.The company expects to deliver most of the systems during fiscal 2028, which begins March 1, 2027. However, delivery timing could change based on production schedules and customer requirements. Sono-Tek expects most of that backlog to ship during fiscal 2028.CEO Steve Harshbarger said the orders show how customers can expand Sono-Tek systems after successfully moving from process development into commercial-scale manufacturing.Sono-Tek’s ultrasonic coating technology serves several clean energy applications. These include next-generation solar cells, fuel cells, green hydrogen production and carbon capture.Micro-Cap Status Adds Volatility RiskSono-Tek had a market capitalization of about $78.3 million based on the previous close, placing it firmly in micro-cap territory.Stocks of this size typically have lower trading liquidity and smaller public floats than large-cap companies. As a result, a relatively modest increase in buying or selling can produce outsized price moves.That dynamic was evident Wednesday. About 425,000 shares changed hands, more than eight times the stock’s 100-day average volume of roughly 50,900 shares.The elevated turnover suggests the record order announcement drew unusually strong investor interest.
